This was originally shared with you under the working title "Draw Near, Stay Close." It began with a demo from my pal John-Michael--that wonderful 80s film synth that pans the stereo field and the odd "echolocation" track were his doing. With the tempo and the key in place, I built up the other elements over several months. But over the last few early mornings and evenings I have taken it in a new direction. I have lyrics written and melodies, and I'll be recording those very soon. But I'm just so chuffed with how this has turned out in this 11th hour of album production that I wanted to share with you the instrumental at least. Thanks for supporting + listening + praying for me.
lyrics
I didn't know that was still a thing they do
Our lampstand was just removed
We spilled our oil
Like ink into an inky sea
We burned it on the waves
You danced off on a distant flame
The one
We were made to enthrone
[Chorus]
We all need to hear some hard things
Sometimes
And this one hits hardest
We thought we could walk
By the light we made
But we got lost
In our own heads
When the light in us was
Darkness
In our caricature we drew
Your features based on our own truth
Our logos in the sponsored section
Of the program and the script we put you through
And when we hung it on the wall
It clashed with nothing at all
We forgot your mouth's drawn
Like a sword
[Chorus]
Lest we forget, no creature is hidden
Lest we forget, we're patients at your table
Lest we forget, you already see our true conditions
In ways we've never been able
Give us sight!
Lest the light in us be
Darkness
[Chorus]
I'm nearly Dylanesque in my hubris
That I got something to say
But am I pure in heart?
That's the question
So find me reclining against
Your most-chaste-chest
I'll hear your resting cadence
